The Granges Community Room officially reopened in early May 2026, following a two-week closure in April to allow for an exciting makeover funded through Abri’s social value programme.
The refreshed space has been transformed into a vibrant, practical and welcoming chill-out area for the local community. A standout feature is the colourful artwork displayed throughout the room, created by residents who took part in the ‘I Matter’ workshops, allowing the space to truly reflect those who use it.
Danielle Welburn, Community Development Officer at Abri shared, "It was a privilege to work with the Youth Council, engaging young people on the estate to contribute to the brief for the new room. The room has already received many compliments from residents and partners. Abri are looking forward to this renovated, inviting, safe space being used for existing and new activities, supporting the local community through the regeneration project."
Residents came together to celebrate the reopening alongside a representative from Crown Paints, whose support helped bring the project to life. The official opening was marked with a ribbon cutting by Councillors Helen Price and Alison Carpenter, followed by food and refreshments as guests explored the new room.
This transformation was made possible thanks to the generosity of multiple suppliers, who donated their time, materials and expertise to support the project. Their contributions played a vital role in creating a space that will be used and cherished over the next years of the redevelopment.
This work was led by Abri's Community Investment and Development teams, reinforcing Abri’s commitment to investing in places and creating spaces where communities can thrive.
