Community at the heart of The Granges
Building work started in August 2025 on the redevelopment of Sawyers Close. To mark the fresh start and with the overwhelming support of residents, the redevelopment has been given a new brand name – The Granges.
Over the next five years, housing provider Abri, along with its construction partner, award-winning housebuilder The Hill Group, will build 413 high-quality and sustainable homes for its current residents and the local community in Windsor. These will be built both on the existing site and on open space adjacent, transferred to Abri by the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead (RBWM).
This will see the demolition of the existing worn-out buildings, comprising four tower blocks of 192 properties in total. Almost all current residents are expected to be moved into their new homes within the next three years.
All of the new homes will be affordable housing (either through reprovision of existing social rented homes, affordable rent or shared ownership) in a mix of apartments, maisonettes and houses. Every Abri household at Sawyers Close is guaranteed one of the new properties and, by building an additional 221 homes, Abri can also help many more people in housing need in RBWM.
The current Sawyers Close estate is made up of four residential buildings – Broadleys, Grasmere, Winwood and Hale – in the Dedworth area of Windsor. Sawyers Close and its facilities are managed by Abri, a leading housing provider working across the south of England.
A community is about more than just bricks and mortar. We want to help The Granges to become a thriving, inclusive, sustainable place for people to live. Our plans for a new community centre and play space are designed to bring the wider community together to enjoy everything that The Granges will have to offer.
The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead (RBWM) agreed to grant planning permission for the redevelopment of Sawyers Close on 7 December 2023,

The Granges vision
Abri’s vision for The Granges, shared with our customers and partners, is one where:
- Our customers will be proud to say that they live there and Abri will be proud to say these are our homes
- The community will thrive and our customers will enjoy the same (social, economic and environmental) outcomes as everyone else in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead
- Not only will the new homes be safe, warm and affordable but our customers will receive great services during the regeneration and long after the new homes are built. We’ll also provide high quality common areas and open spaces and more homes for people who need them.
Who are Abri?
Abri is a housing association based in the south of England. We’re one of the largest in the area, manage 50,000 homes and community assets and work on behalf of 114,000 customers.
Our work is not only about providing homes, we believe that a home is more than a place, it is a feeling. It’s about feeling safe, secure and happy.Everyone has a right to a safe, warm and sustainable home, and to feel part of a community where they have the opportunity to belong, grow, and thrive. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have access to these things. We believe that we can fix this, or at least make a dent in it. It’s what gets us up everyday.
